Quitman School District continues to 'B' excellent!

B rating

The Mississippi Department of Education released the school and district accountability grades for 2023-24 school year, and we are excited to announce that the Quitman School District has once again been rated a 'B.' This rating is calculated at the state department level using student assessment data.  What did our administration have to say? Read on!

QSD Superintendent Dr. Minnie Dace said, "QSD has maintained its "B" rating for the second year, and this is a true testament of everyone's hard work and dedication to excellence. We are “Building a Legacy of Excellence-One Student at a time."  Mattie Stepanek said, "Unity is strength...When there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved." I am so grateful to serve in a district where students, teachers, administrators, and the community understands the value of quality education. Together, QSD will continue to strive and thrive in 2025."

QLE Principal Amanda Allen said, "Quitman School District's B rating is the result of a lot of hard work on the part of staff, students, and parents. Quitman Lower Elementary will continue to do our part, setting the standard of excellence as the first home of the panthers."

QUE Principal Kristen Schrimpshire said, "At Quitman Upper Elementary, we are incredibly proud to have earned and maintained a B rating from the Mississippi Department of Education for three consecutive years! This achievement reflects the dedication of our students, staff, and community. Our journey to success is guided by our motto, "Win the Day," which reminds us to give our best effort every single day. As we look ahead, we are committed to continuing the hard work that has brought us this far, while also focusing on new ways to improve and grow!"

QJH Principal Debbie Chapman said, "This B represents all the hard work and effort the students, staff and administration put forth each day for the betterment of the next generation! I am extremely proud to be a part of Quitman School District- EMPOWERING EXCELLENCE: Elevate All Day Every Day Win the Day In Pursuit of Excellence!!

QHS Principal Latasha Shaw said, "It's STILL a great day to be a Panther here at Quitman High School!  On September 17th, MDE shared the wonderful news that Quitman High School has maintained a B-Rating on the Mississippi Statewide Accountability System for the second year in a row.  The state of Mississippi uses this system to assign a performance rating of A, B, C, D, and F for each school and district based on established criteria regarding student achievement, individual student growth, graduation rate, and participation rate. High school statewide assessments are used to measure proficiency and growth for students taking end-of-course subject area assessments in Algebra I, English II, Biology, and U.S. History.  For the 2023-2024 school year, QHS saw increases in Algebra I Proficiency, Biology I Proficiency, and US History Proficiency.  We also had gains in our College and Career Readiness indicators and our Graduation Rate.  We are excited that QHS has held firmly to our B-Status, but we are certainly not satisfied!  Our new saying on campus is "Striving for the A is STILL the Panther Way"!  Due to earning 690 points for the 2023-2024 school year, our new hashtag is  #64more, indicating the number of points needed to earn the A-status on the MDE 1000-point high school accountability model.  The celebration of gratitude for our students' and staff's hard work is just beginning. On Thursday, September 19th, students who scored proficient and advanced on their state test assessments had an opportunity to visit the MS Aquarium in Gulfport for a tour thanks to the support  received from the Mississippi Aquarium, Project SAIL; a program made possible through funds donated by Ingalls Shipbuilding, The Citizens Bank, and Beau Rivage, Resort & Casino Biloxi®. There were a total of 188 students that qualified based on their state test results.  Additionally, we are looking forward to our school-wide state test celebration day on Thursday, October 17th.  This is the day that we have set aside at QHS to celebrate everyone who contributed to our repeat B-Status!  We will be reaching out to all who would like to contribute to our celebration day to make it one of the most memorable ones thus far!  Help us say it out loud, "QHS is STILL Panther Proud!"

CTC Director Eric Turbyfill said, "The Quitman School District is proud to have earned a "B" rating from MDE Accountability, a direct result of the dedication from our students, teachers, and staff.  This highlights our commitment to providing high-quality education and preparing our students for success in both academic and career pathways.  Going forward, we will continue to focus on enhancing our programs, continued student growth, and working together to achieve even greater success.  We are excited about the future and remain dedicated to improving outcomes for all students."
