Internet Safety Training
Quitman School District (QSD) participates in the E-rate program for federal funding of technology services, projects and procurements through funding provided by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Universal Service Administration Company (USAC) Schools and Libraries Division (SLD). Because of this participation, QSD must provide education on Digital Citizenship and Internet Safety to all students every year and maintain a record of this training at each campus. In the event of an audit QSD must be able to provide documentation that the district is CIPA (Children’s Internet Protection Act) compliant.
Per USAC:
For schools, the policy must also include monitoring the online activities of minors. As of July 1, 2012, as part of their CIPA certification, schools also certify that their internet safety policies have been updated to provide for educating minors about appropriate online behavior, including interacting with other individuals on social networking websites and in chat rooms, cyberbullying awareness, and response.
The following content will allow for proper training for CIPA compliance. Please use the content on these pages at your discretion. Suggested grade levels are provided, however, please use your judgement as to how the content is applicable to your student base.
Quitman School District’s Acceptable Use Policy must also be covered during the student training. This can be found on pages 27 of the QSD Elementary Student Handbook and pages 41 of the QSD Secondary Student Handbook.
When training is completed students must sign the E-rate Student Signature Roster Form indicating that they have received training and that they agree to QSD’s Acceptable Use Policy. Each student must sign indicating that he/she has received training and also that they agree to the Acceptable Use Policy. These forms, completed by ALL STUDENTS, including students that enroll during the school year, must be maintained by each school in an E-rate binder that is provided by the Quitman School District Technology Department.
